Moniek de Boer a.k.a. Mo, was born in 1965 in Rotterdam, Holland. She started here musical carreer playing the flute at a very young age. She switched to acoustic guitar at the age of 12. Then flute again with an education in classical music. At the age of 18 she started playing the electric bass in rock, hardcore and noise bands. She combined flute playing and bass-guitar for a couple of years but ultimately falls for the fretless electric bass-guitar with all of it’s complications and possibilities. Years of steady development gave her characteristic and complex rhythm-tracks in even and uneven measures with excellent dynamics as her trademark and makes her popular and much invited in the scene of improvisers and experimentalists in Europe and beyond.
Main influences are Miles Davis, Trevor Dunn, Igor Stravinski, Galina Ustvolskaya, Trilok Gurtu, Peter Kowald and John Zorn. Contemporary classical music, seventies jazz, eastern, etnic and noise music.
